Communicating the Gospel message in Japan is not easy! Many biblical concepts and categories, including sin, legal guilt, redemption by substitution, forgiveness, and eternal life are either unfamiliar to the Japanese or else have quite different meanings in the Japanese context.
Evangelistic tools, tracts, and Bible studies imported from overseas have their uses, but much is “lost in translation” and often fails to connect with the Japanese heart. For most Japanese people, Christianity remains a foreign faith, disconnected from their cares and concerns.
Against this challenging background, Christ Bible Institute (CBI)’s team of overseas missionaries and Japanese nationals have come together to create a new suite of resources to help Japanese people share their faith in terms and concepts that are both familiar in Japan and filled with new meaning in the biblical story of salvation. These resources are written and illustrated primarily by Japanese Christians, with theological, pastoral, and creative input from missionary team members.
With the generous support of partners in the USA, UK, Singapore, and elsewhere, these resources are made available free of charge (except for shipping), and may be ordered from our website. (Currently available for delivery only within Japan.) Although the myうちそと(uchi-soto) printed resources are only being made available in Japanese, CBI is making the English translations for all the resources available on this website. It is our prayer that many English speakers will find these resources useful in their evangelism to the Japanese people, and even perhaps to others. Glory to God!
